Lauren Briggs says she’s relishing the chance to feature in front of Durham Women’s home support once again – as the side prepare to take on Crystal Palace.
The midfielder made her first start of the campaign against Southampton last time out after returning from a long-term injury, and could feature again when the Eagles visit Maiden Castle on Sunday, January 29 (12pm kick-off).
A place in the next round of the Vitality Women’s FA Cup is up for grabs for the winner, with both sides keen on progression.
And ahead of the clash, we caught-up with Briggs:
Briggs on her first start of the season after returning from injury against Southampton…
“It was amazing – just to hear the fans as well.
“And to put in the performance we did and grind out the clean sheet, that was most important thing.
“It was great to be back on home soil, see those fans and meet them after the game.”
Briggs on the Southampton draw…
“The key aim from the game was to keep a clean sheet.
“We could have been more clinical with some chances, but we also ground out some stages of the game where we were maybe under the cosh.
“So to come out with a point, on reflection, it was a bit frustrating but we were happy with it as well.”
Briggs on playing in the Vitality Women’s FA Cup…
“Everyone loves playing in the cup.
“We’re really going to try and push on as much as we can through the competition.
“Everyone is really up for the game with Crystal Palace and hopefully we’ll have all our fans down and cheering us on.”
Briggs on the impact of the home fans…
“They’re immense – it doesn’t matter if we’re home or away, we hear them.
“We’re excited to have this round of the cup at home and hopefully we can get as many down as possible on Sunday to cheer us on.”
