Durham Women’s Academy team claimed a 5-0 win over Leicester City in their latest league
fixture.

Pritchard was first to find herself with a chance in front of goal, starting the shots on target
early with two within the opening ten minutes of the game. An impressive save from the
Leicester goalkeeper kept the score unchanged.

The run of play quickly turned and the Wildcats found themselves with some defending to
do. King’s saved shot from Leicester and more runs forward meant Leicester won the first
corner of the game.

Despite quality defending during the first corner, Leicester were quick to find themselves with
two powerful shots on target. S. Wilson was quick to block both, keeping Leicester from
bagging a goal.

Despite multiple attempts to break the deadlock during the opening 45 minutes, both sides
were able to keep the ball out of the net, going into half-time goalless.

Durham’s continuous pressure was rewarded at the beginning of the second half when E.
Wilson found herself in front of goal, tapping the ball into the net with ease and opening the
goalscoring for the team.

Pritchard got close to a goal of her own when she narrowly missed the target, aiming straight
at the crossbar.

The home side saw a couple of changes throughout the game, the first being Briggs and
Giles making way for Dale and Gatt. The energy of the team remained the same throughout,
constantly searching for another opportunity in front of goal.

The Wildcats found themselves with another chance when they were awarded a corner –
Farrugia winning the header, causing the ball to hit one of Leicester’s own in an attempt to
defend, before finding the back of the net.

Only a minute later E. Wilson earned a brace, netting herself a hat-trick after a further ten minutes and successfully finding a way past the Leicester keeper for the third time.

Monkhouse was quick to add to the scoresheet, making an immediate impact after coming off
the bench in the final stages of the game.

King was able to keep a clean sheet despite some strong attempts on goal and Durham
were able to see the game out with a strong win.
