PREVIEW: Saoirse Noonan on Bristol City clash

Durham Women are back in Barclays Women’s Championship action this weekend as they face Bristol City.

The Robins have enjoyed a strong start to the campaign and currently sit second in the table – having lost just one league fixture this term.

Durham, meanwhile, enter the clash off the back of a morale-boosting 5-1 win at Coventry United in their last Championship fixture – followed by an encouraging showing at top tier side Aston Villa last week.

And with this weekend’s clash being the Wildcats’ last home fixture of the calendar year, the desire to get a result will be sky-high.

We caught-up with Saoirse Noonan ahead of the clash…

Noonan on taking confidence from the Aston Villa and Coventry performances…

“For us to go down there, on a big pitch on a Sunday night, and put in the performance we did was well-worked by the girls.

“The goal was quality – we have to give them that – but we defended well and created chances.

“We can be proud of ourselves for the performance we put in.

“We needed a performance like we did against Coventry.

“It wasn’t what we ideally wanted, but when you’re scoring goals and winning games that’s what counts.”

Noonan on her goal return so far…

“We don’t really care who scores as long as we’re scoring.

“But it’s nice to be on the scoresheet and even seeing Rio – I think that’s her first league goal of the season and she got a hat-trick.

“Everyone deserved what they got.”

Noonan on the importance of home support…

“We’ve had great support so far, and it’s the last home game of the year so I think everyone needs to come out and support us.

“It’s great to be back home – we train here every day so the home advantage is huge.”
