PREVIEW: Naoisha McAloon on Lewes clash

Naoisha McAloon says Durham Women are ‘buzzing’ to get back on the field as they prepare to take on Lewes this weekend.

The stopper made her first start of the season against Sheffield United in the club’s last outing, making a string of crucial saves – including what proved to be the decisive one in the penalty shoot-out for a bonus point.

And McAloon admits she was pleased to be back on the field.

“It was good to get that extra point,” she said.

“It was a tough game, but we’re just looking to improve on that.

“I enjoyed it. I know there are parts I need to improve, but I was happy to be back out there and get the bonus point and the win in the shoot-out.”

This season has seen the club develop a really competitive goalkeeper union – with McAloon and Tatiana Saunders pushing each other.

“It’s brilliant,” said McAloon of the dynamic.

“It’s great to have competition and add to the goalkeeper union.

“We train really hard together and try to get the best out of each other.”

Next up for Durham is a visit from Lewes, who remain unbeaten in the Barclays Women’s Championship.

And McAloon is well aware of the test ahead.

“Obviously it’s going to be a tough game – every game in this league is – and we know what to expect,” she said.

“Everybody has come back recharged and focused again.

“The atmosphere has been great and we’re buzzing to get going this weekend.”

The Wildcats are again set to be backed by a strong home crowd – with the club having sold double the number of advance tickets for the Lewes game this season compared to the same fixture last year.

And that level of support isn’t lost on McAloon and her teammates.

“They’re absolutely brilliant,” said the ‘keeper of the fans.

“They really spur us on and we love hearing them.

“Having the support of our fans means everything.”
