HARDY: ‘A Really Positive Start’

Rio Hardy has reflected positively on Durham Women’s start to pre-season.

With preparations now well under way at Maiden Castle, the striker is pleased with the progress that has been made thus far.

“It’s been really good,” she said.

“The new girls have settled in really well and obviously we’re a close group anyway.

“It’s been a really positive start.

“For a lot of people this is their first time playing full-time professional football and we’re all grateful to get to do that every day.

“We’re just pushing each other to be the best we can.”

The 2022/23 Barclays Women’s Championship campaign will be Hardy’s first full season with Durham – and she feels her performances can only benefit from a full pre-season with the side.

“I think it’s going to be even better for me personally to get a whole pre-season under my belt.

“I think we can only push on and do good things with the time we’ve got now.

“We’ve got lots of time to work on things so i’m looking forward to where it can go.”

And all eyes are already on the opening day with Sunderland – with tickets already flying out for the clash with Sunderland on August 21.

And Hardy feels there is no more exciting fixture that Durham could have been dealt.

“I don’t think we could ask for a better game to start with,” she admitted.

“We’re expecting a big crowd like we had last season and I think it’ll be a good one to begin with.

“The fans are class and there’s no better feeling than when you hear them chanting and getting involved in the game.”
