AYRE: ‘I’ve Already Learned So Much’

Grace Ayre says she’s already reaping the benefits of regular training with Durham Women’s first-team squad.

The defender made a handful of appearances for the club last season and has now stepped into full-time training with the senior squad ahead of the 2022/23 campaign.

And with a challenging but rewarding fortnight already under her belt, Ayre feels she is beginning to see the benefits.

“It’s been intense, but really good,” she said.

“I think everyone is loving being her full-time, is really positive and it’s a really good atmosphere to be around.

“I think I’ve already learned so much in two weeks. The season hasn’t even begun and I’m already learning.

“It’s unreal to be around the first-team and I just want to do well this season.”

Ayre could be involved when Durham welcome local rivals Sunderland on the first day of the season.

And having watched the last meeting between the pair from the stands, Ayre is hoping to be involved this time around.

“I was here for the last Sunderland game watching among the fans,” she explained.

“I want to be part of the team this time and really experience what it’s like.”
