BORTHWICK: ‘We Focus On Ourselves’

Megan Borthwick says Durham Women will continue focusing on their own performances – ahead of the visit of London City Lionesses.

The Lionesses have enjoyed a fine start to the campaign and currently sit third in the FA Women’s Championship having lost just once.

They will travel to a Durham side high on confidence following a 2-2 draw with Manchester United in their last game, prior to the international break.

It’s a result that Borthwick admits has boosted spirits even further in the camp.

“It was phenomenal for us,” said the stopper.

“It showed the quality we have for us to compete against those players has done wonders for our confidence.

“It was six and two threes really – you want to carry on but you need that break to recharge mentally and physically.

“But we’ve all been working hard and we’re ready to go on Sunday.”

There will be no over-confidence in the squad, though, with the Wildcats remaining grounded.

“The thing that the girls have is that we take each game as it comes,” explained Borthwick.

“We never get too far ahead of ourselves and that works well for us, so we take Sunday as it comes and address that on the day.”

And that approach will be key against a London City side in a rich vein of form.

“The results that they’ve been getting lately have been really good,” said Borthwick of this weekend’s opponents.

“They’re a solid team but we just focus on ourselves – that’s all we can really do.”
