HILL: ‘I Don’t Know Why I Hit It!’

Kathryn Hill says Durham looked back to their usual selves in the 2-0 win over Charlton Athletic.

The Wildcats responded in perfect fashion to their defeat at Sheffield United by beating the promotion-chasing Addicks – after a great deal of self-reflection over the last seven days.

And Hill was delighted to see the side back to their best at Maiden Castle.

“We’ve been really reflecting on last week’s performance,” she admitted.

“It wasn’t good enough across the board and we just didn’t look ourselves.

“All week we’ve been speaking about how we need to look back to our usual Durham. We definitely did that today.”

The defender opened the scoring with a stunning effort after just three minutes – even if she isn’t entirely sure why she attempted the shot!

“It just bounced nicely on the edge of the box – and I don’t know why I hit it!

“I would normally just try to put it back in, but i just took a swing with my weaker foot and thankfully it flew it.”

And Hill saved the final word for the club’s supporters, who again came out in their numbers.

“They’re always brilliant,” she said.

“They drive us on, we can hear them, and really drive us on – so thanks to everyone who came to support.”
