NEWS: Salicki Stays For 2021/22

Durham Women FC are delighted to confirm that defender Becky Salicki has agreed a new contract with the club.

The defender joined the club in 2016 and quickly established herself as a regular in the side – helping the club forge one of the tightest defences in the FA Women’s Championship.

Always sure to chip in with some vital goals too, Salicki recently made her 100th appearance for the Wildcats – and is now looking to grow that number as the club head into the 2021/22 season.

“I’m super excited to be staying with Durham for the new season,” she said.

“We’ve got an amazing group here and we are ready to push on.

“The Championship is going to be harder than ever this year, and I think there’s certainly going to be four or five teams up there competing at the top this season – and I’m pretty sure we will be one of them.

“Last season was bittersweet with us finishing second as it was our highest ever finish, but we missed out to worthy winners Leicester.

“We are going to use that experience to come back stronger and I know the girls are more determined than ever. “

Next season will also see the Wildcats roared on by a home crowd for the first time since February 2020 – something Salicki is looking forward to.

“We can’t wait to have our fans back again,” she added.

“Although we haven’t been able to have fans in the ground we’ve certainly felt the support via social media and with the donations to our #ENDCHILDFOODPOVERTY campaign, and we can’t thank them enough.

“But now we are ready to have our fans back cheering us on and I know for a fact they will give us that extra edge on the pitch at home.”

After seeing the defender extend her stay with the club, manager Lee Sanders said: “Becky is one of the best defensive players in the league.

“She’s a great communicator and leader on the pitch and a huge part of the culture and what we are trying to build on each year at the club – and is again another fantastic re-signing for us.”
