NEWS: Briggs Here To Stay

Durham Women FC are delighted to confirm that Lauren Briggs will remain with the club for the 2021/22 season.

After returning from a long-term injury, Briggs enjoyed a successful campaign for the club during the 2020/21 season – featuring regularly and making her 50th appearance for the Wildcats in the process.

Having excelled in both midfield and defence last term, Briggs is targeting further improvements as Durham prepare for the new FA Women’s Championship season.

“I’m really excited and raring to go,” she said.

“We really earned the break but now I’m ready to get back on the pitch and show what we are all capable of.

“It’s a lot easier to commit and make the sacrifices we all do to come and play in such a positive environment. It’s always a privilege to wear the shirt so I’m ready.

“I think it’s important to stay humble as we have done season upon season but we definitely want to improve on our last season.

“We know we have a lot more to each in each performance and we have recognised areas where we do need to improve and this season it’s about brining all those pieces together.”

Briggs is also relishing the chance to once again play in front of supporters after the last season was completed behind closed doors.

“I don’t think the fans will ever really understand true impact they have on each and every performance,” she added.

“I think there were times we needed them more than ever in the season just gone and we are hoping that extra encouragement will take us to the next level.

“To say the least, we are excited and happy to meet and greet all of our dedicated fans.”

Commenting on retaining Briggs, manager Lee Sanders said: “We’re absolutely delighted for Lauren to come back from so many injury setbacks as a younger player to play her first full season.

“She’s had a fantastic season in both midfield and at left back and I’m sure will want to build on that.

“She has a long history with the club and it’s great she will be with us again.”
