BIG MATCH PREVIEW: Coventry United (H)

Durham Women play their final fixture of the 2020/21 season this weekend – as they welcome Coventry United to Maiden Castle.

The Wildcats will be looking to finish the season strongly – but face a Coventry side who are enjoying a successful spell having secured their survival.

Here’s everything you need to know ahead of the fixture:

After impressing in their first season in the Championship last year, Coventry – now back under the guidance of manager Jay Bradford – have shown plenty of promise in the final weeks of the campaign.

After an injury-ravaged start to the season, Bradford now feels the ‘real Coventry’ are on show.

That has been backed-up in recent results, with eye-catching wins over Blackburn Rovers and Crystal Palace propelling the Red and Green away from relegation danger.

And Coventry will no doubt be keen to finish the season with another three points this weekend.

Stopper Sue Wood is a reliable presence between the sticks and Durham will have to be at their best to get past her.

At the other end of the field, Coventry have plenty of attacking talent.

Destiney Toussaint has impressed since her January arrival from Birmingham City while Beth Merrick is one to watch closely – having scored against the Wildcats earlier this season.

Stay tuned for a pre-match interview!

We’ve met twice already in the 2020/21 campaign, with our last meeting coming at the Butts Park Arena in December.

And in what turned out to be a thrilling contest in Coventry, Durham came from 3-1 behind to win 4-3.

Our last meeting at Maiden Castle came in the Continental Tyres Cup earlier this season – where Durham ran out 5-2 winners under the lights.

The match will be played at Maiden Castle.

Kick-off is at 2:00pm on Sunday, May 2.

Please note that this fixture will be played behind closed doors.

Our social media accounts will not be offering updates this weekend as we stand alongside other clubs in boycotting Facebook, Instagram and Twitter.
