Abby Holmes has hailed Durham Women’s togetherness – after the side battled their way to victory over London Bees.
It was far from a vintage display from the Wildcats, but Bridget Galloway’s second half goal sealed the three points at Maiden Castle.
But the full-back was pleased to see the side stick together at the end of a tough week – and register an important win.
“I think you could tell we were kind of nervous,” said Holmes.
“We’d obviously played three days ago and some people have full-time jobs as well, but everyone stuck together and in the second half one moment of quality got us that goal.
“Don’t get me wrong, I still think we can be better but we got that goal and got our noses in front and then defended well. Sometimes you’ve got to win ugly and that’s what we did.
“With three games in a week it is hard, but we’re in this position and thankfully we got over the line with three points.
“We’ve got six league games left and we just take each one as it comes. We take the three points from today and move onto London City Lionesses.”
Holmes was introduced for the second half against Bees as she continues to build-up her minutes after an injury lay-off.
And the full-back was delighted to be back on the field as we head into an important stage of the season.
“It’s nice to be back – and you can’t get the smile off this face!
“My last game was four and half a months ago, I had my knee operation and just hammered the rehab – and thankfully I’m back now.
“Thanks to the medical team and everyone at the club for getting it sorted.”
