Durham Women are back on the road this weekend – as they prepare to face Crystal Palace.
After starting 2021 with their longest trip of the season to Lewes, the Wildcats will now face another mammoth journey as they head to Hayes Lane to face a Palace side packed with quality.
Here’s everything you need to know ahead of the fixture:
Managed by Dean Davenport, Palace have a squad packed with quality and their league position doesn’t fully tell the tale of the players at their disposal.
Goalkeeper Chloe Morgan is a reliable presence between the sticks while at the back, former Wildcat Annabel Johnson is a regular at the heart of the back four.
Winter signing Kirsty Barton will be one to watch in midfield, while Palace have a wealth of options available up front – including Bianca Baptiste, Ashlee Hincks, Cherelle Khassal, Coral Haines and Katie Natkiel.
Davenport’s side drew with London City last weekend, despite playing a large chunk of the game with ten players, and were unlucky in defeat against Leicester City on Thursday evening.
Speaking ahead of the game, Becky Salicki said: “Obviously Annabel is there and captain now and she’s a really good player.
“They’ve got loads of really good players in their team and we have loads of respect for them and how they do things.
“It’ll be a competitive game, but we’ll get together and look forward to Sunday.”
WE’VE MET BEFORE
We welcomed Crystal Palace to Maiden Castle earlier this season, where a Beth Hepple brace was enough for us to seal victory.
Our last trip to face the Eagles came last season, where Hepple’s hat-trick and a Becky Salicki header sealed a 4-1 win.
The match will be played at Hayes Lane, Bromley.
Kick-off is at 2:00pm on Sunday, January 17.
