Durham Women FC are delighted to confirm a new educational partnership with Newcastle College – which will allow young females on Tyneside and beyond to combine their studies with an exciting football programme.
The Wildcats have already established two Women’s Football Academies with Durham Sixth Form Centre and Bede Sixth Form in Stockton, allowing those keen on pursuing a career in the sport to do so without having to leave their studies behind.
And the new partnership with Newcastle College will allow even more learners to benefit from the exciting opportunities this programme can bring.
Students who join this Women’s Football Academy will be able to choose from a wide range of subjects to study – with vocational and academic options available within the group.
And alongside their studies, they will train at least twice a week while also taking part in a competitive fixture programme – with some sessions to be led by Durham Women first-team player, Sarah Robson.
Newcastle College also offers a strong enrichment programme, which has previously included overseas football tours to the likes of Italy and Malta.
After the partnership was confirmed, John Gibson of Newcastle College said: “It’s a very proud moment.
“Over a number of years, we’ve built a strong male football programme which has been successful – but to ensure that we’re offering sport to all of our students it’s essential that we get football available for females too.
“Durham Women are the most successful women’s club in our region at present and I think this is the start of a really good relationship that will hopefully enrich the lives of a lot of the young females in our region.”
Durham Women FC Pathway and Development manager, Maddy Wood, added: “Our new partnership with Newcastle College is very exciting for us and we look forward to welcoming current and new students into the academy.
“It is a brilliant opportunity for students to embark on a dual pathway developing their football whilst continuing to pursue their academic potential too.It really is the best of both worlds.
“Here at Durham Women we pride ourselves on supporting these young women with their football and beyond so it’s great to have Newcastle College on board – and we can’t wait to get started.”
We are now welcoming expressions of interest from students who wish to be part of the Women’s Football Academy at Newcastle College when it begins in the next academic year.
A number of open days and training sessions are planned in the early months of 2021 – allowing youngsters the chance to find out more about the brilliant offering available to them.
You don’t have to be a Durham Women FC player to access this great opportunity – any player, regardless of the club you play for or your footballing experience – is more than welcome to apply to join one of our educational partners.
Your fixtures will take place on a Wednesday – meaning you’re free to represent another club on weekends.
