BIG MATCH PREVIEW: Charlton Athletic (H)

It’s back to league action for Durham Women this weekend, as they welcome Charlton Athletic to Maiden Castle.

After a midweek win over Sheffield United, the Wildcats will be looking to continue their fine start to the season against another tough opponent.

As per current government guidance, this fixture will be played behind closed doors.

Durham Women FC kindly ask all supporters to refrain from travelling to the ground, and to follow the game from home.

And ahead of the game, here’s everything you need to know – from stream details to social media coverage and more:

After a productive summer in the transfer market, Charlton are ready to make their mark on the Championship – and will come into this game with fresh legs having seen their midweek clash with Brighton & Hove Albion postponed.

The Addicks lost their last league game to London Bees but have already picked up an eye-catching win over Blackburn and a hard-fought point against Crystal Palace this term.

And manager Riteesh Mishra has no shortage of quality in his ranks, either.

Between the sticks, both Eartha Cummings and Katie Startup offer a reliable choice while captain Grace Coombs is a talented central midfielder.

Charlton will be without the suspended Rachel Newborough in midfield, but Ciara Watling has bags of talent and creativity in the engine room – and will lay on chances aplenty for the lively Jess King up top.

The two teams met early on last season, goals from Molly Sharpe and Lisa Robertson secured a 2-0 win for the Wildcats.

We last visited the Oakwood in January 2019, when a controversial late home leveller saw us forced to share the spoils in a 2-2 draw.

Skipper Sarah Wilson said: “The Championship is so competitive and every game throws a different challenge.

“We just need to make sure that we are switched on from the off, and we focus on our own game plan.

“We know it’s going to be a battle, as it always is, and we are expecting a tough afternoon.”

The match will be played at Maiden Castle.
