BIG MATCH PREVIEW: Sheffield United (A)

After a fortnight away from action, Durham Women are back as they travel to Sheffield United in the Continental Tyres Cup.

The Wildcats will travel to The Technique Stadium to face the current Championship leaders in a game which could help shape who qualifies for the knockout stages of the competition.

Here’s everything you need to know ahead of the fixture:

THE OPPOSITION

Many people’s title favourites this season, Sheffield United have started the campaign in impressive form and currently sit top of the Championship having yet to taste defeat.

Neil Redfearn has a squad packed with quality, the Leandra Little and Naomi Hartley providing a watertight backline, while at the other end of the pitch Katie Wilkinson, Jade Pennock, Mel Johnson and Courtney Sweetman-Kirk are a fearsome frontline.

The Blades faced Aston Villa in their opening game of this competition, losing 1-0 to Jodie Hutton’s penalty.

WE’VE MET BEFORE

Our last meeting with Sheffield United came last season as we were cruelly beaten away from home, losing 1-0 to Aimee Palmer’s long-range strike despite dominating the entirety of the contest.

We also met in the Continental Tyres Cup last season – where Sheffield ran-out 4-0 winners at New Ferens Park.
