Durham Women FC are delighted to confirm that Nicki Gears will be staying with the club for the 2020/21 season.
The pacy forward, who arrived at the Wildcats in 2015 after a spell with the University of West Alabama, has been a near ever-present since her arrival in the North East.
Last season saw the striker rack-up her 90th appearance for the club – with Gears rapidly approaching the landmark of 100 games in blue and white.
The North Yorkshire native has netted 13 times since joining the club, including a vital goal against eventual champions Aston Villa last term.
And having now put pen to paper ahead of the new FA Women’s Championship campaign, Gears is itching to get back on the field.
“I’m really excited for another season at Durham,” she said.
“I can’t wait to get back training and playing games – and of course seeing our fans. Your support over the years has been unreal and it means so much to us as a club.”
Manager Lee Sanders was equally pleased to see the forward commit her future to the club.”It’s great to have Nicki on board for another season,” he said.
“She’s a perfect example of how the scholarship opportunities work at the football club in partnership with Durham University – she joined us in 2015 and has been with us in the first team squad since.
“Everybody knows her qualities. She was doing really well before lockdown and I’m sure she’ll be keen to keep on improving herself, providing assists, chipping in with goals and helping to push the team higher next season”
