HOLMES: “I knew it was coming”

Abby Holmes insists she had no doubts that Durham Women would find a breakthrough in a cagey clash against Lewes – after a dominant performance from the Wildcats.

Here’s what the full-back had to say after another all-action performance:

Holmes on the win…

“The first half, against the wind, it’s a completely different game, but I think we dominated. We just didn’t really have the quality in the final third.

“But in the second half, we kept pushing and got one, two and then three.

“It could have been more but three points, the clean sheet and three points is the most important thing.”

Holmes on being patient…

“We were positive in the first half and I knew it was coming, but we had to keep believing in ourselves and playing the correct football.

“As soon as that first one went in – a great shot from me, by the way – we were fine.

“We were well on top for the whole game.”

Holmes on her goal…

“It was good to help the team out and the three points is the most important thing.

“We just needed to keep going and going and believe one would go.

“Once it did, the floodgates opened.”
