Nicki Gears has hailed Durham Women’s stunning work-rate after they earned a draw at high-flying Aston Villa.
The Wildcats became the first team to take points from Villa this term, with Gears netting in a 1-1 draw, and the striker was delighted with the effort shown by her teammates.
Here’s what she had to say after the game:
Gears on the draw with Aston Villa…
“It was two very good teams, and it’s always going to be difficult going to Villa.
“But I think we’re quite happy with a point. Obviously it’s disappointing to let the lead slip, but overall it’s good to get a draw on the road.
“We were full of confidence. We know we can beat them, we know we’re both good teams and we know it’s always going to be a battle against them.
“But they worked very hard and did well to get back into the game.
“I think we let it slip a little and we didn’t play our best football today, and to concede a goal from a corner is quite disappointing.”
Gears on late chances…
“We definitely could have pinched it.
“We could have created more chances and scored a couple more goals – but it wasn’t to be.”
Gears on the fine workrate from the Wildcats…
“Everyone was giving everything they possibly could.
“People are broken in the changing room after the game. They’ve literally put their bodies on the line for the club.
“Again, we’re happy with the result.”
Gears on the performance…
“We can definitely play better than that.
“On a different day, and especially at home, we can do better than that and get the win”
