Durham Women turn their attentions back to the FA Women’s Championship this weekend – with a trip to league leaders Aston Villa.
After returning to winning ways against Blackburn Rovers last weekend, the Wildcats will be searching for another victory when they head to Boldmere.
But Villa – the pre-season favourites for promotion – will prove a stern test for Lee Sanders’ side.
Here’s everything you need to know ahead of the fixture:
After enjoying an impressive end to the 2018/19 season, Aston Villa have built upon those strong foundations.
And with some big investment having been provided over the summer months, Gemma Davies’ side look set to be serious title contenders this time around.
The likes of Emma Follis, Ella Franklin-Fraiture and top scorer Melissa Johnson have helped bolster an already talented squad – and Villa currently sit top of the second tier.
They beat Sheffield United last weekend in the Continental Cup, and are yet to lose in the league.
WE’VE MET BEFORE
We’ve already met Aston Villa once this season, as a brace from Molly Sharpe and an Abby Holmes header handed us a 3-0 win in the Continental Tyres Cup.
Speaking ahead of the game, Becky Salicki said: “They’re a very good team and at the top of the league for a reason.
“We need to go there and play our game. We have our game plan and we’ll see where we get to at the end of it.
“I have every faith we can give them a good game at least.”
