Beth Hepple hailed an ‘amazing’ team performance as Durham Women made it five wins on the spin against London City Lionesses.
The Wildcats’ stand-in skipper netted a brace in the win at Princes Park in a result which saw the side return to the top of the FA Women’s Championship table.
And the midfielder was quick to praise a fine collective effort in the win over a potential promotion rival.
“It was an amazing performance,” she said.
“We’re absolutely delighted with the win. We knew it would be a difficult place to come.”
Hepple opened the scoring in Dartford with a well-struck first half penalty, before then adding the Wildcats’ fifth after a slick move.
And while known as a physical team throughout the second tier, Hepple believes that a stunning second half display shows that the side are casting off that reputation.
“Everyone relaxed more in the second half,” she explained.
“We’ve been working on our press and we nailed that in the second half – we didn’t let them out.
“A lot of the goals came from errors caused by our hard press.
“We’re known as a physical team in our league but the fifth goal showed we can get the ball down and play as well.
“It’s nice when your team mates put a goal on a plate for you like that!”
We’re back at home on October 13th when we welcome newly-promoted Blackburn Rovers to New Ferens Park!
