Abby Holmes is keen to see Durham Women build on a solid performance against Aston Villa when they travel to London City Lionesses this weekend.
A 3-0 win over the Villains saw the Wildcats maintain their unbeaten start to the season, but that run will be severely tested when they make the journey to Princes Park on Sunday.
Holmes, though, wants to carry the momentum forward.
Watch her interview below:
Holmes on her goal…
“I don’t usually go up for corners, but I’d won the corner myself and Kathy said ‘you stay up.’
“I went to the back post and nobody was marking me, so it was a great ball from Beth and a bullet header.
“I’m really happy with that and it kind of finished the game off.
“It was really even in the second half, but once we got the third goal that was it – game over.”
Holmes on Durham’s high press…
“In the first-half our game plan was to press them and it worked out for us.
“We kept them high up the pitch and they panicked.
“A lot of long balls were blocked and that kept us up the pitch and the pressure on them.
“It’s a cup game and we have to go again in the league.”
Holmes on changes and injuries at the back…
“We’ve got five solid defenders and then Mac has slotted in as well.
“We’ve had a few niggles but that’s just football.
“Hopefully they’ll go away and they’ll get back soon.”
Holmes on still throwing herself into tackles – even on a booking…
“That’s just my game!
“I was unlucky with the yellow, but you have to be careful once you’re on a booking.
“But you can’t just not tackle because you’re on a booking.”
