Megan Bell believes Durham Women’s opening day win over Leicester City was ‘something special’.
The midfielder, who netted on her debut at Farley Way, was full of praise for her teammates after they won 5-1 against the Foxes.
Here’s what Bell had to say after the game:
On a dream debut…
“It was a really, really good performance from the team.
“The first half was a bit sluggish, a bit end-to-end, but when we came out in the second half I feel like we did really well.
“We got to grips with it, and probably the goalkeeper going off was a godsend for us because it meant we could test the new goalkeeper early when she came on.
“I’m delighted to get a goal, but obviously I couldn’t have put it in the back of the net without the assist from Jordan – which was a good cross in.”
On providing two assists for Molly Sharpe…
“I assisted Molly for two – just assisting my housemate!
“The first was a flipping powerful header; I don’t think I’d have put that in – it would have gave me concussion!
“I’m delighted for her to score two on her debut as well and delighted for the team. It’s a good start to the season.”
On starting the season in fine form…
“I’ve been speaking to a few of the girls and they said coming here was a struggle last season.
“But today, we’ve gone and hit the back of the net and you couldn’t ask for more.
“Especially on the opening day, it’s something special.”
Bell and the Wildcats return to New Ferens Park this Sunday (August 25) to face Crystal Palace – and tickets are on sale NOW!
