Jordan Atkinson insists Durham Women are ‘totally ready’ for the new campaign – in a much-improved FA Women’s Championship.
The winger, who returned to the club during pre-season, is under no illusions as to how hard the second tier will be this season.
But, off the back of a rigorous pre-season programme, she believes the squad are well-prepared for the new term.
“It’s been really good,” she said of pre-season.
“Obviously we’ve been trying some new things and we’ve got some new faces in the squad, so it’s good to all gel together.
“For myself, I just need to get some sharpness back.
“I’ve been out for a little while so it’s good to be getting some games and minutes.
“Everyone has stepped up their game, we know that,” continued Atkinson.
“A lot of clubs have invested and strengthened their squads, so we know it’s going to be a tough season.
“But the girls are totally ready for it.”
The campaign kicks-off at Leicester City tomorrow (August 18) and Atkinson knows the trip to Quorn FC will be a tricky start for the Wildcats.
“We expect it to be a really tough game,” she admitted.
“Obviously we know a bit about them from previous seasons, so we know what to expect and that’s a tough game.”
