Sarah Wilson says Durham Women are determined to sign-off the 2018/19 season in style – by beating Tottenham Hotspur in front of their home support.
The Wildcats still have an outside chance of securing promotion on the final day at New Ferens Park, but will need Aston Villa to do them a favour when they face Spurs this evening (Wednesday).
But Wilson is keen to ensure that the Wildcats don’t get too distracted by events in the Midlands – and instead focus on the positives that can be gained from the trip to Leicester City.
For while the afternoon was a frustrating one, the Durham skipper wants her side to keep pushing towards the final game of the campaign.
“It’s a bit frustrating, especially when we dominated the game for long periods of time,” she added.
“We created some really good chances but obviously just didn’t finish enough of them.
“Credit to Leicester, they kept pushing and pushing and pushing, but at the end of the day we have to focus on ourselves and we have to finish these chances.
“It’s from everyone on the team – we’ve all had chances when we’ve had set pieces. It’s not just the forward players, it’s every single one of us.
“Maybe we switched off a bit at the back to concede a goal like that, but again it’s just a little bit frustrating.”
“There’s so many positives to take away,” she continued
“Promotion is something we still kind of have one eye on, and is technically still possible, so we’ve just got to keep on pushing.
“Maybe we’re not quite there yet, maybe we’re just a little bit off, but we have to keep pushing and pushing and doing what we’re doing.”
And Durham still have a chance to end the season on a positive note when they host Spurs on Saturday 11th May (5:30pm kick-off) – with Wilson keen to repay the home support with one final victory.
She added: “The support at home has been absolutely incredible all season and we want to go and finish it off and give them a great show, just to say thank you for everything they’ve done this season.”
