Emily Roberts says Durham Women remain hopeful of promotion after a 1-0 win over Millwall Lionesses.
Roberts’ fine sole strike wrapped up the three points against a stubborn Millwall side as the Wildcats kept their faint promotion hopes alive.
And while Lee Sanders’ side are now reliant on Tottenham dropping points if they are to have any chance of securing a top two finish, Roberts says that there is still a hope that promotion can be achieve.
The winger netted her ninth of the season against the Lionesses – and was happy to net a decisive strike in what was a ‘huge’ game.
“The main thing was that I wanted to score today,” she said.
“I had about 50 chances so I thought I better put this one away and thankfully I did. I got a little bit lucky that the girl slipped and the space opened up for me.
“It was a huge game and all the girls came round together and worked for each other.
“Credit to Millwall but in a very disciplined performance and made us work hard throughout the game. It was a frustrating game as they were very solid defensively.
“They frustrated us and we had to be patient but credit to Millwall and out girls for keeping it going.
“We’ve still got confidence that we can get promoted but we’ve got our fingers crossed. Football is a funny game and anything could happen.”
