Beth Hepple is refusing to give up on Durham Women’s promotion hopes – and is targeting an unbeaten end to the season.
Defeat to Sheffield United saw the Wildcats’ hopes of a top two finish fade, with their fate now dependent on other results.
But Hepple isn’t deterred, and believes there are still more twists and turns to come before the season is out.
“It’s so frustrating but we showed great character after going down to ten players and we have to build on that and focus on the positives,” she said, following the 2-1 reverse to the Blades.
“We’ve got three games left and we have to be targeting nine points from those games – anything can happen in this league.
“We didn’t show up in the first half. It wasn’t a lack of effort from the girls maybe just some pressure.
“The girls gave everything and we can’t ask for anything more than that. Yes, it’s disappointing but we still have those three games left.
“Sheffield are a very good team and in a fantastic run of form. We’ve had many good battles over the years with them so we knew what to expect from them. They were first to every ball and reacting to things quicker than we were, which is frustrating.
“We got a rocket at half-time and we came out for the second half a bit more fired up. Even when we went down to ten, we still believed that we could get something out of the game.”
