Abby Holmes is well-aware of the significance of the visit of London Bees as Durham Women eye a promotion push.
The Wildcats are still in with a shout of promotion this campaign, but cannot afford to drop any more points as they pursue Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur.
And Holmes is hopeful that momentum can be built ahead of six ‘cup finals’ in the coming weeks.
Here’s her full thoughts ahead of the game:
Holmes on almost a month without a fixture…
“Obviously momentum is good going into games, but we’ve been working hard in training.
We’ve been training three times a week and on the weekends we’ve had off, so hopefully that momentum we’ve been building in training will roll into the Bees game.”
Holmes on our last outing, a win at top tier Bristol City…
“I was away for that game, but the girls did well.
“They worked really hard to get a 2-0 win and hopefully we can build more momentum against London Bees and go into that FA Cup game with nothing to lose.”
Holmes on promotion hopes…
“We’ve got six games left and we’ve got to go into every one knowing we can win.
“Consistency has been a bit of a problem, shall we say.
“We got some great results at the turn of the year, beating Manchester United, but it [gaining promotion] is something we know we can do if we battle hard and put into practice what we’ve been doing.
“Bees is a really important game. We beat them 1-0 away and it wasn’t the most convincing of wins, but if we manage to put in a great performance and work on what we’ve been practicing in training, then hopefully that momentum can start to build.
“Promotion is not in our hands at the minute and we need other teams to drop points.
“But if we get three points on Sunday it’ll help us for the next five league games.
“It’s literally six cup finals and we have to hope other people slip up.”
