Emily Roberts is hoping that the Wildcats can keep the pressure on the top two as they prepare to return to FA Women’s Championship action.
Back-to-back draws have seen Durham slip down to fourth in the table, with Manchester United and Tottenham currently leading the way.
But Roberts is hopeful that her side can up the pressure on the top two in the coming weeks – starting with the visit to Crystal Palace on Sunday.
Here’s her full thoughts ahead of the game…
On the first two games of 2019…
I! think they could have gone better.
“We deserved to get something a bit more out of the Charlton game definitely, and I think if we had that would have put the pressure on Tottenham and Man United and would have put us in a stronger position.
“So it was quite disappointing, but on a plus side we haven’t lost the first two games so it could be worse.”
On our last outing against Aston Villa…
“Everyone was a bit down in the dumps after the Villa game.
“Fair play to Villa, they came out a lot more aggressive and coped with the weather conditions better than we did.
“But that’s a game we really should be winning.”
On bouncing back against Crystal Palace…
“Everyone is looking forward to the Crystal Palace game.
“It will be nice to get back on the pitch and hopefully get back playing the football we know we can play.
“I think we just need to relax and enjoy playing and take each game at a time.”
On what to expect from Crystal Palace…
“I think you’re always going to expect a tough game in this league,
“I’ve heard they’ve strengthened their squad too, so it should be a good competitive game.”
On getting to spend another weekend with the squad…
“The journeys are always funny.
“And the team activities which Steph [Libbey, assistant manager] puts a lot of effort in to always leaves everyone in good spirits and is good preparation for the game.”
On pushing for promotion come May..
“I think the club and everyone involved have done a brilliant job to get the club where it is, so the fact that we’re fighting up in the top four is a great achievement,
“But I know everyone will be wanting to go that little bit further, so all we can do is take each game at a time and hopefully get the results we want to keep the pressure on the top teams.”
