Zoe Ness is forecasting an exciting end to the FA Women’s Championship season – with Durham in the thick of the promotion battle.
Ness netted a brace in the 2-2 draw with Charlton last weekend – a result which keeps the Wildcats in the thick of a four-horse race for two promotion spots.
And with a tricky test against Aston Villa on the horizon, Ness is predicting a blockbuster end to the campaign.
Here’s her full thoughts on the draw with the Addicks and the visit of Villa on Sunday (January 13):
Ness on the Charlton draw…
“It was a very competitive game and I think that’s what happens when second plays third.
“It was a very close game and both teams had chances.
“Both teams were fighting and going for it at the end and it was a very end-to-end game with plenty of chances in it.
“Maybe 2-2 was a fair result.
“The league is a competitive ones and teams can take points off any team.
“But like you say, it was a draw again and it is a competitive game.”
Ness on her two goals against Charlton…
“In the warm-up I wasn’t having the best of luck, but with that I thought ‘have a bit of composure, drive forward’ and luckily it set up quite nice.
“I just had a hit and it went in, which is good.
“I think the second goal for myself was just about being in the right place at the right time, I guess.
“2-1, we are leading, so it’s probably a bit disappointing that we have dropped a couple of points.
“But 2-2 is probably a fair result for both teams.
“We’ve come away with a point from an away trip, which we’re okay with.”
Ness on the test posed by Villa…
“They’ll be very similar to a couple of teams in the league.
“Teams can take points off anyone so it’s about us preparing and going into the game as fully prepared as possible.”
Ness on a heated promotion race…
“It’s nice for the league to be competitive and for teams to take points off teams.
“Looking forward, we maybe have a better run of games so that’s something which is at our advantage.
“But we need to go and work hard.
“Every team will be pushing and wants to win, so there’s a lot to look forward to.”
