NEW: Stockton RC Bede Sixth Form Girls’ Football Academy

Durham Women Football Club are delighted to announce a new partnership with Stockton Riverside College Bede Sixth Form – which will allow aspiring footballers in the Tees Valley, Teesside and North Yorkshire areas to follow a dual-career pathway.

The partnership will see the club form our second Girls’ Football Academy which will compliment our existing academy at Durham Sixth Form Centre.

The academy will form a key part of the clubs’ player pathway and will give aspiring footballers aged 16-19 the opportunity to combine playing football with studying for A-Level or BTEC qualifications with our partners, SRC Bede Sixth Form.

Players will represent Durham Women FC in both the National Football Youth League and North East Colleges League – allowing them to compete against some of the best players in the country and also offering a more recreational option while receiving the same level of coaching.

Players in our Girls’ Football Academy may also have the opportunity to represent Durham Women FC as part of one of our squads which will compete in the FA Women’s National League (including reserves) or FA Women’s Championship in 2019/20 but can also continue with their current clubs on weekends as it’s not just exclusive to Durham players.

SRC Bede Sixth Form – which boasts FIFA-accredited sporting facilities – offers an extensive range of BTEC and A-Level courses. You can find out more about the courses on offer HERE.

Speaking after finalising the partnership, SRC Bede Sixth Form principal Ben Robinson said: “This is a great opportunity for young female players in the Tees-Valley area to enter a programme with recognised pathways to the professional game whilst continuing education in a dual-career ethos.

“It’s an excellent opportunity that doesn’t exist in post-16 education within the Tees-Valley at present.”

Durham Women FC general manager Lee Sanders added: “It’s a big part of our development as a club that we are able to offer players from all over the North East the opportunity of a dual-career pathway, which is essentially studying while playing football.

“We have successfully run this programme with our first partners, Durham University and Durham Sixth Form Centre, and after extensive meetings with Ben Robinson at SRC Bede Sixth Form, we’re delighted to be now offering this to players in Teesside, the Tees Valley and North Yorkshire areas from September 2019.

“We’re really looking forward to seeing what the partnership will deliver for the players and seeing the potential future students in a few weeks at the first trials.”

If you’re interested in being a part of our exciting academy, please attend one of our open trials.

Information evenings will be held at Bede Sixth Form, TS23 3HB on the following dates:

  • Thursday 17th January (5:30-7:30pm)
