RECRUITING: Durham Sixth Form Centre Football Academy

Durham Women Football Club are delighted to announce we are now recruiting for the first region of our 2019/20 Girls’ Football Academy, delivered in partnership with Durham Sixth Form Centre

The academy will form a key part of the clubs’ player pathway and will give aspiring footballers aged 16-19 the opportunity to combine playing football with studying for A-Level or BTEC qualifications with our ‘OFSTED Outstanding’ partners, Durham Sixth Form Centre.

Players will represent Durham Women FC in the National Football Youth League – allowing them to compete against some of the best players in the country.

Players in our Girls’ Football Academy may also have the opportunity to represent Durham Women FC as part of one of our squads which will compete in the FA Women’s National League (including reserves) or FA Women’s Championship in 2019/20.

Durham Sixth Form Centre, which was recently rated ‘Outstanding’ by OFTSED, offers an extensive range of BTEC and A-Level courses. You can find out more about the courses on offer HERE.

One player who has already benefitted from this scheme is Megan Elliott. The young centre half studied at Durham Sixth Form Centre while representing Durham Women FC in the FA WSL Development League and the North East Regional Women’s Football League.

Away from her football, Elliott also secured a place at university thanks to the academic support on offer from Durham Sixth Form Centre.

And Elliott is keen for more players to take advantage of what the academy offers, as she said: “I enjoyed my two years at Durham Sixth Form Centre as they gave me a great opportunity to combine high-standard training at the Football Academy with completing my studies.

“The fact that it was also connected to an FA Women’s Championship club in Durham Women and a great university in Durham University was another big positive, and I would recommend this Academy to anyone looking to play football at the highest level while also wanting to further their studies.”

If you’re interested in being a part of our exciting academy, please attend one of our open trials.

The trials will be held at The Graham Sports Centre, Maiden Castle, Durham (DH1 3SE) on the following dates:
