Ellie Christon believes Durham Women can take plenty of confidence from their narrow defeat to Manchester United.
The pair meet once again in the FA Women’s Championship this Sunday (12pm kick-off, New Ferens Park) and Christon is keen to see the Wildcats build on a positive performance.
Here’s her full thoughts on the game:
Christon on a positive performance…
“We’re all pleased with our performance.
“We obviously knew it was going to be tough coming here, they’re a really good team.
“But we’ve come here before and got the 0-0 result, so we were full of confidence in ourselves.
“We knew we were difficult to break down and we proved that again.
“It was one goal, and just a slip in the first minute or so, and we can’t really complain too much about that.”
On the club’s progression…
“We’ve come a long way.
“We’re holding our own against these big teams now, so we’re really proud of that.
“We’ve all stepped up our game and a lot of us have been to work today then coming here, so it was a good performance.”
On confidence gained for Sunday’s league game against Manchester United…
“We’ve worked really hard on the training ground and it’s given us confidence for Sunday.
“We have real belief that we can go and take three points.
“The top of the table is up for grabs so we just need to apply ourselves as we did today.
“Proving tonight that we can hold our own, we can’t go in there holding back.
“We need to go at them and get the three points hopefully.”
And finally, a message for fans ahead of Sunday’s game…
“We need as many people there as possible as that really helps.
“We’ve got some good fans and the more the merrier.
“We need that twelfth man to help us.”
