REPORT: Durham 0-2 Leicester City

Durham Women saw their unbeaten start to the season come to an end after defeat against Leicester City.

Goals from Nicole Nymoen and Serena Fletcher handed the Foxes the win – but they owed a lot to stopper Demi Lambourne who made a string of stunning saves.

Lee Sanders made just one change from the side that beat Millwall, with Lisa Robertson handed a full debut in place of skipper Sarah Wilson.

And despite starting on top, the Wildcats found themselves behind after six minutes.

A loose back-pass was picked up by Leigh Dugmore who eventually teed up Ella Franklin – her cross side-footed home at the far post by Nymoen.

The Wildcats looked to immediately respond with Beth Hepple flashing a shot wide from 30 yards before Lambourne saved well from Nicki Gears.

But it was to be the visitors who netted next, with a free-kick worked out to Fletcher whose long-range effort bounced past Hannah Reid to double their lead.

Chances continued to come for Durham, though, with a heroic block in the box from Sarah Jackson stopping Gears from pulling a goal back before the break.

And Durham continued to push forward after the interval with only the inspired Lambourne keeping them out.

The Leicester ‘keeper denied Hepple from point blank range while Abby Holmes saw an effort curl narrowly wide.

Durham then had a golden opportunity to reduce the arrears from the penalty spot after Emily Roberts was hacked down in the area.

But Lambourne again came up trumps, denying Hepple from 12 yards.

Ness then saw an effort destined for the bottom corner spectacularly tipped wide as the hosts continued to ramp up the pressure.

A string of set pieces were to no avail as some fine defending from the visitors kept their two-goal cushion intact.

However, there was to be no way past a stubborn Leicester backline as Durham saw their fine start to the season end.

Durham XI: Reid, Robertson, Robson (Hill), Hepple, Ness, Gears, Salicki, Christon, Roberts, Holmes (Wilson), Lee
