Sarah Wilson believes that the draw with Manchester United set the standard for the season – and that the Wildcats will carry that confidence into Sunday’s trip to Aston Villa.
The Wildcats put in a fine defensive performance during the stalemate with the Red Devils, and Wilson wants to see her side carry that momentum into a tricky fixture against the Villains.
“The mood has been really positive,” she admitted.
“Everyone has been working hard in training over the break and that result gave us confidence moving forward.
“We set ourselves a standard during the Manchester United game so we know what we are capable of.”
But while the result in the North West was impressive, the Durham skipper is keen to ensure that the team don’t rest on their laurels ahead of the trip to Boldmere.
For Wilson knows that Villa will prove a stern test and that points will be vital as the Wildcats pursue their ultimate aim of promotion.
It’s always a tough test against Aston Villa,” she added.
“We know that they are well drilled, have a strong squad and what they are capable of, but It’s important that we focus on our own game.”
“It’s important that we continue to get points on the board to make sure we are working towards our end goal this season.
“We have made a good start to this campaign and we want to continue with that.”
The trip to the Midlands is yet another overnight stay for Durham, but WIlson has revealed how the squad will spend the time in the build-up to the fixture.
“We always have a great weekend when travelling for away games, which is a lot!,” she said.
“We do spend a lot of time together which definitely benefits us as a squad.
“We’ll be looking forward to our team activities on Saturday night. We have broken off into little groups for a competition and so far we’ve had team performances and head to head top trump games!”
