Skipper Sarah Wilson is keen to take the positives from the Wildcats’ 3-3 draw with Liverpool.
While the top tier side claimed victory on penalties, Wilson was delighted with how her side performed against the top tier opposition.
Here’s her thoughts on the game…
Wilson on the result…
“It was disappointing not to hold on, especially when we had been in front for so long. But credit to all the girls, as we had to dig deep because it was a tough game.
“Liverpool did have a lot of possession but it wasn’t the kind of game where we just parked the bus. We worked hard and tried to do what we wanted to do. Credit to Liverpool though, as they showed their quality to get back into the game. They had players who could come off the bench and change the game and score goals, and that’s what happened.
“But I think we showed there wasn’t that much difference between the sides which just proves what we can do this year and that we can compete with the top teams.”
Wilson on an action-packed opening two minutes…
“Conceding the first goal was frustrating because we spoke about needing to tighten up on set pieces.
“But then for us to react and get a goal within a couple of seconds just shows our character. We didn’t want to just sit back or keep our heads down, which is so important against teams like this.”
Wilson on confidence gained…
“Putting in that performance against Liverpool is a great confidence booster.
We had that great result against Sheffield away and took points off Everton, so it just shows what we can do. We tried to focus on what we wanted to do and our own game against Liverpool and that showed on the pitch.
“We just ran short, but to take a point is brilliant.”
Wilson on penalty hoodoo…
“Penalties here is just one of those things!
“Nobody is a fan but it’s a rule which has been brought in and it’s experience for us.”
