Zoe Ness was delighted to start her season in goalscoring form – as she prepares to meet up with the Scotland National Squad.
The striker netted the decisive goal in the Wildcats’ 1-0 win over Everton and has now teamed-up with the Scotland side ahead of their latest World Cup qualifiers.
Here, Ness reflects on the victory over the Toffees and looks ahead to her international exploits.
On a determined performance against Everton…
“I think previously we might have been over-compensating, trying to compete.
“But I think it was just a case of being gritty, being hard-working, having good shape and going and taking the game to them.
“It’s been a long pre-season for a lot of teams and going back to a winter season and this weather was a bit of a shock to the system!
“But it was a good performance from everyone.
“We said at the end that from front to back, everyone was solid.”
On recovering from our last defeat to Everton…
“It was a bit of a whitewash that game and it was definitely one that we learned from.
“The biggest thing was don’t make it happen again.
“I think you’ve seen in our performance today that we’ve competed.
“Teams are a bit changed at the minute and I know there’s obviously been a lot of chopping and changing between teams in the league.
“At the end of the day though, we’ve come away with a 1-0 win and that’s pleasing.”
On her goal…
“During the week we’ve obviously worked on pressing.
“As a striker, and a lone striker, you’ll spend a lot of the time without the ball.
“It was one of those chances that when you do get it, you have to take it.
“I think everyone’s positioning was great and we’ve done well not to let them play forward and through us.
“So from the back everyone has sat in a good shape and obviously they’ve then made a mistake and it’s just a case of being clinical.
“I’m pleased with the finish – it’s probably one of the easier chances I’ll get!”
On meeting up with Scotland…
“I’m looking forward to meeting up with the squad again.
“It was positive last time so I’m just hoping I can carry that on this time too.”
