Durham Women are delighted to announce the signing of forward Olivia Fergusson from Spanish side Espanyol.
The 31-year-old returns to England to join the Blues having spent the last season in Liga F, Spain’s top flight.
Fergusson brings vast experience of both the Barclays Women’s Super League and Barclays Women’s Super League 2 – having spent time with Aston Villa, Bristol City, Yeovil Town, Sheffield United, Leicester City and Coventry United.
The winger also spent time in Scotland with Celtic and in Australia with Wellington Phoenix, either side of a stint with Wolves.
Fergusson has also represented England at Under-23 level and brings vast experience and quality to Maiden Castle – as well as promotion-winning experience, having helped Bristol City and Leicester City to the top flight.
Speaking after signing her Durham contract, the forward said: “I’m really excited. It felt like the right time to be back home – I had some amazing experiences abroad but it feels really good to be back.
“The girls are great and it almost feels a bit familiar. They’ve been welcoming and I feel like I’ve settled in quite quickly.
“I’m a forward – I like to be direct and quite aggressive and passionate in my play. I like to work hard out of possession and then create things going forward.
“The fans are everything, aren’t they? They can bring us a lot of energy this season and we’ll thoroughly appreciate that.”
Fergusson becomes the club’s fourth summer signing – joining Jade Pennock, Dee Bradley and Rachel Lowe in putting pen to paper with the Blues.
