Durham Women seal deal for Amber Stobbs

Durham Women are delighted to announce the signing of midfielder Amber Stobbs.

The 32-year-old makes the move to Maiden Castle after captaining Newcastle United last season.

Stobbs brings a wealth of experience with her from both England and America and becomes the club’s second summer signing.

After coming through the ranks at both Arsenal and Chelsea, Stobbs made the move Stateside to team-up with Hofstra University.

While studying, she also featured for Washington Spirit before she returned to England in 2015 to join Reading in the top flight.

A move to Everton followed in 2017, where Stobbs helped the Toffees to the FA WSL 2 Spring Series title.

Spells at West Ham United, Charlton Athletic, Crystal Palace, Watford and Lewes followed as Stobbs showcased both her versatility and ability – becoming a key component in every side she featured for.

Newcastle United came calling in July 2023, with the London-born midfielder helping the Magpies to promotion to the second tier before captaining them in their debut season at the level.

And having now put pen to paper at Durham, Stobbs is looking to once again play her part in success.

“It’s really exciting to be here – you can probably tell by the smile on my face,” she said.

“Durham are a powerhouse in the league, a very competitive team for years, and I’m really excited to be here.

“I think it suits. I was chatting to the club and the style of play and the bit that Durham have got about them, it suits me.

“Durham has had a great thing going with the fans for years and I think you can see that.

“I don’t think any team will come here and enjoy it as much as us playing here. I’m excited to have the fans behind me, be part of the team and I think it’s going to be a fun and exciting year.”

Stobbs will wear the number 21 shirt at Maiden Castle.

This summer, we want to shine a spotlight on our region and will be unveiling all our signings at iconic locations across County Durham. Stobbs was unveiled as a Durham player at Finchale Priory, a 13th-century Benedictine chapel on the edge of the River Wear.

The deal remains subject to league and FA approval.
