Match Reaction | Adam Furness on Birmingham City win

We caught-up with Adam Furness after Durham Women’s 1-0 win over Birmingham City.

Here’s what the Head Coach had to say…

On the result…

“We’re absolutely delighted.

“It’s really important we bounced back after last week to get three points on the board today.

“In my opinion, the performance fully merited it. In the first half we were the stronger team and created some decent opportunities and didn’t manage to get ourselves in front.

“Then the second half once we went in front we’ve managed to see the game out with some real strong defending.

“Overall, it’s nine points from twelve and a pretty good start.”

On seeing the game out…

“I think there’s a lesson learnt from last week. Although the game felt fairly comfortable, it didn’t end in the right manner for us.

“That probably doubled down today to make sure they saw it through and you saw a really committed defensive display for the last few minutes to make sure we came away with the three points.”

On our attacking display…

“You look at their squad list and that’s a really strong Birmingham squad.

“I thought first half in particular we were really front-footed, got at them and created the better chances in the first half.

“To be honest, I was a little bit disappointed we came in level.

“The second half was a different display but just proved that the girls can do both.”

On the strength of the whole squad…

“Across the course of the season we’re going to need the squad and the full range of players we’ve got to go and win games.

“We’re absolutely delighted. Players came in and tactically did the jobs we wanted them to do.

“Then players coming off the bench, they were straight into the action and right up to speed.”

On Blackburn…

“Straight into it on Wednesday.

“It’s our first game in the League Cup so we need to see how the players recover before we pick the squad.”
