New Zealand international defender Michaela Foster has become Durham Women’s fifth summer signing.
And here’s what the 25-year-old had to say after joining the Blues…
Foster on joining Durham…
“It’s exciting – it’s been in the works a long time and I’m ready to go.
“It’s been cool to see the facilities and meet everyone. It’s really exciting.”
Foster on her career so far..
“I went to college in America and made the decision to go pro. I got the chance to do that in New Zealand.
“I’ve been in that environment for two years and it felt like the right time to step into a new challenge.
Being here in England, especially with Durham in the Championship, was a great opportunity for me and I’m really excited to be playing for this team in this league.”
Foster on why she chose to join Durham…
“It’s a beautiful place, first of all. It’s going to be a bit colder than New Zealand, but I’m excited for it.
“There’s a familiar face in Hannah Blake here, a fellow Kiwi, so that’s a little bit of home here.
“But Durham is a team that wants to win the league and has shown they can come close and do it, so I want to be a part of that and win the Championship.
“That’s what this club wants to do and what I want to do as well. The potential here with this team is exciting and to come into a team that’s already started really well is really cool. I’m excited to come and be a part of that.”
Foster on the last twelve months – which saw her selected for the World Cup and Olympics…
“It’s been a pretty incredible journey with the New Zealand team.
“I went from not being involved to making tours pretty consistently and being part of those two big tournaments was huge.
“I didn’t get on the field at the World Cup but that was still in that squad and just to learn from the players and what it takes to be in that starting eleven and be on the field at big tournaments – it takes a lot of work and to learn off my teammates was huge.
“That paid off a little bit with the Olympics. I went in as a training reserve and got my shot in each game.
“That was special, just to soak in every moment and use those big moments to grow as a footballer.”
Foster on what type of player the fans can expect…
“An exciting two-footer. I can get confused with what foot I am sometimes!
“I’m quite a composed player too, I’m someone who will try and read the game and in moments that we need someone to settle the game my teammates can look at me.
“But also when we need a push I can do that with attacking balls forward and strong defence on the other side too.”
Foster on meeting the Blue Army…
“I’m really excited.
“Following the first two games and hearing their support, I’m excited to get out there and put the jersey on and play for the club and for the fans and give them something to cheer about.”
