We caught up with Beth Hepple ahead of Durham’s first trip of the season in the Barclays Women’s Championship – as the Blues head to Portsmouth on Saturday, September 14 (2pm kick-off).

The midfielder is the only member left from the side that last played Pompey back in 2014 – the South Coast side the winners on that day in the Women’s FA Cup.

“It will have been a long time ago I’d imagine,” she said.

“They’ve got a number of good, experienced players, I know they got beat on Sunday but they still played well.

“We’re going to expect a tough game.”

Here’s what else the midfielder had to say:

Hepple on Sunday’s winning start…

“A really good start for us.

“Obviously nice to get three points on the board the first game and it’s been a bit of a wait so it was nice to start with a win.

“It was nice to be at home, obviously it wasn’t great weather but they [the supporters] came out in their numbers and their support is always massively appreciated.”

Hepple on building on victory…

“We’re playing on Saturday so it is a bit of a quicker turnaround, but that’s nice.

“When you’ve won a game, you want to get the next one underway as quick as you can.

Hepple on the importance of wins on the road…

“It is really important.

“There is a number of tough and long away games so we need to pick up as many points as we can in this league.”

Hepple’s message for the travelling Blue Army…

“You’re mad!

“We are massively appreciative and we kind of expect it every game, it is amazing and we can’t wait to see you all there.”
