Lauren Briggs spoke to us following the pre-season friendly against Manchester United.
And here’s how she viewed the behind closed doors clash…
Briggs on positives to take…
“We knew that it was going to be a really competitive game.
“I think it’s really important to put ourselves out there and test ourselves against some of the best in the world.
“There were moments where we did really well and combined really well, and it’s just piecing those moment together and trying to progress that throughout the 90 minutes.
“But there’s lots of positives to take and we need to reflect and go again.
“We have to be more confident in our ability as an individual and a collective.
“There were moments where we could have capitalised and got a toe on the end of things and it could have ended up in the back of the net.
“Then it’s concentrating in those tired spells and piecing together the really good things.
“We can all walk away from it with our heads held high.”
Briggs on the scoreline…
“We’ve been preparing all week for it, different scenarios.
“Each phase of the game we were prepared for.
“I do believe it could have been a tighter scoreline and that we could have scored ourselves.
“But we can go away from this game, reflect on it positively and use that to our advantage against the next opposition we come up against.”
Briggs on seeing improvements through pre-season…
“It’s taking each day as it comes, week-by-week and performance-by-performance.
“We are reflecting on each and every performance and we’re moving forward. That’s really important to concentrate on.
“We gave a really positive account of ourselves today and I think all the girls can be proud of the performance we put in.
“We’ve still got time to prepare properly before the season and hopefully by the end we’re raring to go.”
Briggs on being ready for Sheffield United on September 8…
“It’s building blocks.
“We’re preparing for the first game of the season and we’re preparing for Sheffield.
“It was a really positive account of ourselves – not just today but everything building up to this point.
“Testing ourselves against Manchester United, it was going to be a difficult task.
“But if we can piece those moments together then it’s really exciting for us ahead of the new season.”
