Durham Women begin their Adobe Women’s FA Cup campaign at West Brom this weekend – and Amy Andrews is relishing the chance to once again play in the competition.
The forward played in the Women’s FA Cup during her formative years and, after spending four years in America, will return to action in the famous competition this weekend.
And she will come up against a familiar foe in West Brom, with the Blues set to face the tier three side at The Valley Stadium on Sunday, December 10 (3pm kick-off).
“It’s a really good competition,” said Andrews, speaking ahead of the Third Round tie.
“You get to play against all these different teams and it’s really competitive.
“I played against West Brom when I was a little girl and it brings back a lot of memories – and I can’t wait to play them again.”
Expanding on what to expect from the Baggies, she said: “They’re extremely professional and will be a really tough side to play against.
“We’re just really looking forward to it.”
The trip to the Midlands comes after a two week break in fixtures – which has given the side some time to work on the training ground.
“It’s been good,” admitted Andrews.
“Obviously we miss the games and the weekends are hard because we just want to play some football, but we’ve been working really hard in training.
“There’s been lots of fitness, lots of good drills in there and the girls are looking pretty sharp – so we’re ready to go this weekend.”
Prior to that gap in games, Durham claimed a dramatic penalty win over Sheffield United in the FA Women’s Continental Tyres League Cup – with Andrews finding herself on the scoresheet.
And while that brought a buzz to the changing room, the forward is keen to focus on her attentions on the future rather than the past.
“The girls were definitely on a high and I was as well,” she admitted.
“It was nice to get a goal and then score in the penalty shootout as well.
“But it’s now all focus on this game – we try not to focus on previous games and move forward.”
Durham visit West Brom on Sunday, December 10 in a 3pm kick-off at The Valley Stadium.
Tickets for the game are available on the gate priced at £5 for adults and £1 for children.
Full coverage of the game will be provided on our social media channels.
