Dee Bradley: “A Big Confidence Booster”

Dee Bradley is targeting a reaction when Durham Women host Sheffield United in the FA Women’s Continental Tyres League Cup.

The Blades will visit Maiden Castle on Thursday, November 23 (7pm kick-off) in the third group stage of the competition – with Durham currently sat top of Group A.

And having tasted defeat at Birmingham City last weekend, the side are looking for a response ahead of a break in fixture.

“The attitude has been good,” said Bradley of the mood in the camp following the trip to the Midlands.

“Obviously we’re disappointed. We’ve touched on things we need to work on and we had a good discussion as a group, so we’re ready to make it right and do it against Sheffield United.

“We’ve done really well in the Conti Cup.

“A lot of players are getting minutes in it which is good to see, but anyone that plays deserves it.

“It’s not a question of who’s playing, it’s whether we can get the result.

“I don’t think it matters if it’s cup or league – we want to win,” she continued.

“Getting a win in tomorrow’s game would be a big confidence booster.”

Durham were victorious when the two sides met in the league just under a fortnight ago, with Eleanor Ryan-Doyle’s strike sealing a 1-0 win at Bramall Lane.

But the Blades showed their qualities in that clash, leaving Bradley under no illusions as to the challenge that awaits under the lights on Thursday.

“Sheffield are a good team – they’re quick, aggressive and a very good footballing team.

“We’ll expect the same from them on Thursday, and we just need to turn up and do what we do best.”

It could be a special night for the American midfielder who will make her 75th appearance for the club if selected.

And having more than her share of serious injuries before arriving in the North East, it’s a milestone Bradley wasn’t sure she’d ever reach.

“It’s very exciting and I didn’t think I’d ever reach 75 games for a club professionally,” she admitted.

“It’s a huge honour and I’m super proud.

“I think it makes me take a step back and appreciate what I’ve been through and that hard work does pay off.

“I do this for my family so hopefully they’re proud as well.”

Another strong crowd is expected at Maiden Castle for the penultimate home game of 2023 – and Bradley has called on the Durham faithful to play their part on Thursday night.

“We’ve had the best fans home and away this year,” she said.

“If they can bring out the drums and the noise tomorrow, it’ll give us that extra push over the line.

“So please come out and support us!”.
