Saoirse Noonan has urged Durham Women’s fans to bring the same noise they brought to last week’s derby clash when the side return to Maiden Castle on Sunday.

Durham’s travelling supporters were raucous throughout at Sunderland last weekend, and the Republic of Ireland international believes that their backing will be key as the Wildcats look to bounce back against Southampton this weekend.

The Saints have enjoyed a fine debut campaign in the Barclays Women’s Championship and have tasted defeat just twice – the latter of those coming in last weekend’s meeting with Lewes.

And ahead of the match, we caught up with Noonan…

Noonan on bouncing back

“We have to park last week now and move on.

“We have a big game on Sunday, the first one of 2023 at home, and we need to put in a performance for ourselves and the fans.

“I think going into the Christmas break, it came at the wrong time for us.

“We had a good run of games and were finding our feet, then we had to go into the break.

“We just have to react and the joy of sport is how we react from that and how we perform on Sunday is going to be really important.”

Noonan on an unpredictable Championship…

“There’s been loads of different results throughout the season.
