Durham Women striker Saoirse Noonan and her Republic of Ireland teammates are potentially just one step away from qualifying for next summer’s FIFA Women’s World Cup.
The forward is the only Wildcat currently away on international duty – with her nation set to face arguably the biggest game in their history.
Vera Pauw’s team head to Hampden Park to face Scotland on Tuesday, October 11 (8pm kick-off) in the FIFA Women’s World Cup qualifying play-off final.
But a win over Scotland is no guarantee of qualification.
With three play-offs taking place and only two guaranteed spots, the three winners will be will be ranked according to qualifying performances and play-off results.
The top two sides in those rankings will qualify for the World Cup, with the third-placed side then taking part in an inter-continental play-off in November.
However, the Republic of Ireland are in a strong position to qualify should they beat Scotland – with Switzerland and Iceland also eyeing qualification.
But for now, it’s all eyes on Hampden Park – good luck, Saoirse!
